[Trans] ryu seung soo's interview

reposted from SUEHAN's blog

i'll be honest... it crossed my mind about how wuri yong joon might feel to have his good friend publish a book about his life as an actor and talk about wuri yong joon quite abit... ^.~

seems like his good friend ryu seung soo has been sought out for an interivew by the media, and this appeared in the february issue of Woman Joongang.

Original in Korean: Woman Joongang Feb, 2010 issue.

Hallyu Star Bae Yong Joon’s best friend
who has a wide acquaintance,
even though it’s unknown, in the entertainment field

I talked about ‘Yonsama’ first when his name appeared in our conversation. Then, he gave me a hint by saying, “He doesn’t like to be called by that name when I used it in front of him.”, and “If you meet him, make sure to call him by his real name, not his nickname.”

He added, “I don’t know how he looks, but basically, he feels the burdensome on the value of his name and he doesn’t like to show off. He was even mad at me by saying, ‘Yo, use my real name when you call me’ when I called him as Yonsama as a joke over the phone.”

How does ‘a human being’ like Bae Yong Joon appear to him as a friend, not as a Hallyu Star?

According to Ryu Seong Soo, he’s an average man in his late thirties who likes human beings and enjoys drinking occasionally.
Bold
He said, “You would think that he chooses the people whom he wants to meet, doesn’t have good connection with others and never drinks. Am I right? No, you’re absolutely wrong. He likes to go here and there and meet other entertainers even though he wasn’t recognized. Maybe he is somewhere around here (Cheongdamdong). He has a technique that allows him to move around without being recognized, and most people think that he stays at home most time, but it’s not true. (laugh)

Even to Ryu Seong Soo, his first impression of Bae Yong Joon was of a person who was ‘hard to get close to’. It was difficult for him to get close to BYJ when he approached him because he thought that BYJ couldn’t be good with others. But he saw BYJ’s humble thinking and good personality after he spent time with him, so they developed a relationship as friends.

They call each other in the morning, and go to the valley in the summer sometimes. But he can’t deny that he is careful and nervous because BYJ is a “Hally Star” now. He laughed with a joke, “His image shouldn’t be destroyed because of me.”

“Many people asked me about him like they asked Gong Hyeong Jin about Jang Dong Geon.”

I’m proud to have a successful friend, but I’m cautious because he is a big top star. I don’t want to hurt his reputation because of my unnecessary talking. (laugh)

same sweater...?

remember THESE PICS?

me just came from SUEHAN's blog and she said coffeesarang from byjintoronto was wondering...

Are they wearing the same sweater? ^.^

[DATV event] Manager Yang's Talk

as part of the celebration lined up for DATV's six-month anniversary, there's a special program that took place in japan today (mon)... Manager Yang's Talk...!!

our dear cloudnine has kindly done the translation of japanese fan fuyuka's blog post from the event. thanks much much, both ladies!

there're three sessions scheduled to accommodate the fans, and fuyuka was at the 1pm session.

DATV 6-month Anniversary Event

I went to this event. It was sunny today, but was cold. At Sangenchaya I changed the trains to Setagaya line. On the way I had a relaxing and heartwarming feelings somehow. It’s been a while I took a local train like this. (cloud nine: it is tiny little trains of 2 cars!) The venue was a 5-minute walk from Shoinjinja mae station.

Here we are at Setagaya Ward Hall. So many people were already there.

Then the session started from 1 o’clock.

Miss Miyamot, DATV announcer appeared on the stage, followed by DATV CEO who greeted and apologized for the mishap saying he was so sorry for the trouble and now the company was doing its best to cope with the matter. He continued that DATV has received various opinions and they would like to present the events and contents that everyone can enjoy more.

Then the unreleased scene from a making video of ‘A Journey To trace the beauty of Korea’ was screened.

The scene that Yong Joon and a monk were sweeping with the bamboo brooms set an audience roaring with laughter since Yon-sama looked clumsy with the broom.

Was it a ten to fifteen minutes video? Then Manager Yang came up to the stage, which caused a flood of flashlights…

(As Miss Miyamoto said “Really amazing flashlights~~”. I guess that shooting was not banned. There was no notice about it either, so I have posted the pictures here.)

“I’m sorry that we were unable to visit each everyone (in the hospital). We are praying that they will recover as soon as possible.”

“I haven’t actually seen Yong Joon clean his room (laugh), but his room is always tidy.”

“When I visit him to his house, he welcomes me with the snacks, tea and meals. He always clears away. (laugh)

“He cooks shabu-shabu or spaghetti or something like that.”

“He likes bland taste and dislikes instant foods.”

“So he was happy with the meals at the temple.”

“What he was bad at? Maybe love? “ (big laugh)

“That’s why he is not married. I’m just joking.”

“We started to talk about love since I got married. He asked me if I was happy to be married." (laugh)

“I answered that it was good.”

“After I got married, he never calls me after nine o’clock." (laugh)

Manager Yang met BYJ about ten years ago.

“My first impression was ‘He was handsome.’

“I think he grew old a little, but at that time he was more handsome.”

“As his manager the work that I was impressed most is WLS.”

“It was hard work indeed and I still keep the down jacket I wore at that time so that I won’t forget those days. The North Face jacket which Yong Joon bought me.”

“He is mischievous and sometimes plays with my kid. My daughter knows that Yong Joon is handsomer and richer. (laugh) Just a joke…(laugh)

“Lastly as for his work, I’m very sorry to have kept you waiting for a long time.”

“It’s all my fault.”

“We wish to decide the next work soon and start working.”

There was a Q&A session (cloud nine: I attended the 5pm session, and there was no Q&A)

To the question of “How is Yong Joon-ssi?”

He just answered “He is fine.”

There was also a request that fans wanted a message or some words, even as short as four (Yon) lines. He answered that he would pass the request to Yong Joon.

This is what I remember from the notes I took, so if there is something wrong I’m sorry. But he told us a story of such nuance. It was about an hour event.

I had a good time to meet many sisters after a while.

These are the goods we got with the 2,000-yen ticket.

First,
April 24th, (suehan: I think it’s the date when Seoul-Choon Cheon Highway opened last year.), Saturday (suehan: Did she see him yesterday, Korea time? I’m not sure.), the highway has been opened a long time ago and we finally used it.

(omitted)

I browsed the internet fast yesterday; Gapyong Rest Area has good reviews. Of course, we stopped by.

We finished eating, took some pictures, and then,

These days, what’s that called? Anyway, I saw a traditional Korean dress designer, Lee Hyo Jae ssi, who published a book Like Hyojae (?). Lee Hyo Jae ssi’s husband, Lim Dong Chang, is a brilliant but nutty pianist.

I don’t like that style because it looks too affectionate and unrealistic. But I kept watching her. It was funny when she asked me to take a picture with her.. hahaha

Yonsama was among that group. I captured a glimpse of him. Wow! Is it Yonsama?

I just passed by him..

Can you see him? Bae Yong Joon, behind my husband, is wearing black clothes, a black cap and a black muffler!! Can you believe me?

I looked at him carefully. The red arrow indicates Lee Hyojae (her face is shown clearly because she isn’t hiding it), and right next to her stands Yonsama! Until now, I wasn’t clear about it.

He is on the left side. I confirmed that he was Yonsama when I uploaded the picture.
But this wasn’t the end.

We hurried and headed to the famous restaurant, Yupori Makguksu (suehan: Noodle) House.

(suehan: We can assume that she saw him recently in March from the calendar in the picture)

They gave so much food; it got us so full. We had a vending machine coffee when we came out of the restaurant. We met them here again!!
What? Same route?

He was in mysterious black clothing: a black cap, sunglasses, and muffler. He was about a head taller than the others. His face was so small.

Even about 2-3 meters a far, I could see he had clear-cut features. It’s him. Bae! Yong! Joon! I was right. Right?

Only I saw him~ Only me! (My husband went to the restroom in this critical moment.)

A group of ten people and I were standing in front of the noodle house. I was by myself! What should I do~~

Talk to them? No? Take pictures? What if they complain? I was seriously contemplating for a while.

Hew. I couldn't decide what to do until they got in the car. I just watched them get in the car. I’m always like this.

I took pictures of their cars to comfort me.
The Black Land Rover which Yonsana got into already left so I took pictures of the BMW which Lee Hyo Jae ssi was in and another black car to its left.
How could I explain the beating of my heart at that moment?
He was really handsome.
He was handsome enough that even the Japanese Ajummas loved him.

Ah~~ I had fun~~
Wow~~ It was a fruitful day!

[oldie but goodie] not too late...

don't think i've posted this here... coz i'd translated it before the blog started.

something the boys said at their recent concert in seoul struck a chord in me. they'd said something about wanting to grow old with the fans. then, i had sorta recalled vaguely that someone had written something about that, someone amongst bae fans, that is.

the thought came to me again today and i was searching for it... ah... it was a chinese fan who had written it, 一起白头未算迟 and that was back in june 2005(!)

anyway, here's the original reposted from LOVEYONGJOON.com

!)

It's Not Too Late to Grow Old Together

!)

An idea suddenly came to me the other day.
And I told a friend, I want to grow old with YJ.

The friend was at first taken aback, and then he smiled.
But he did not say anything.

I smiled with him.
Although I know that he didn't think much of my bright idea,
I was still feeling quite pleased with myself.
In fact, I was feeling quite happy that I came up with that idea, that goal.

!!)

Yes.

I want to grow old with YJ.

Even if he's no longer as popular,
even if he takes off to somewhere faraway once again without a word,
and even if he gets married, have children and stays out of the public eye...

Whatever... Regardless...
I still want to keep him company and grow old with him.

!!!)

In the days that I grow old with YJ.

I wish...

To see YJ's future wife, is she gentle and beautiful?
To see YL's future children, are they healthy and lively?

And all the more, I wish to see more than anything YJ's face in the future.
Is he still able to tug at my heartstrings as easily as he does now?
Is he able to touch my heart as effortlessly as he does now?
And his smile, would his smile then be as bright and beautiful as it is now?

!!!! )

I want to grow old with YJ.

He has his worries and I will have my own set of problems.

But no matter the worries or problems,
these will not affect the destiny of our lives,
the direction that our lives are chartered towards.

Although his path and footprints have never, ever, crossed mine,
but still, warmth and affection linger in my heart.

Think about it. Just think about it.
In the coming ten or twenty years that I will walk alongside YJ...
YJ he would have long become a very special friend...

This friend, he may be somewhat of a stranger,
yet thoughts about him are always warm.

This friend, he may be somewhat familiar,
but the distance between us is actually far.

But to me, to encounter him in my life...
It's such a beautiful connection...

!!!!!)

YJ.

From today.

It's not too late for us to grow old together.

face it like a man

just wanna add one thing...

of course, wuri yong joon's probably not the only guy who would have done it this way, but i'm glad that he'd chosen to handle the situation this way.

yea, face it like a man.

when something bad happens, quickly get a grasp of the situation, and address the parties concerned. tell them like it is... and when in doubt and when you yourself ain't sure of the exact situation, say so. don't lie or bluff through your teeth, or give false hopes, or be paint an overly rosy picture.

from the words he had said to the fans right after the incident, once again i'm reminded of how i've loved this man so much and for so long.

he had told them sincerely and truthfully that what was supposed to be a happy day was screwed up. he wasn't sure what he could say to make things better, and he told them so, and he said he was sorry. he didn't know at that point the condition of the people who got hurt, and he said so truthfully. he didn't say don't worry, nobody's hurt... he said he understood that over 20 people were hurt and he's uncertain of their exact condition. and he himself had told them the photo-taking could not continue and he needed to go to the hospital.

yea, i love how he had faced it like a man.

really, there are quite a few ways this could have been played out.

one, he could have left the remaining fans, and rushed to the hospital. two, he could have addressed the remaining fans, but not go to the hospital rightaway, but later. three, he could have addressed the remaining fans, but not go to the hospital at all, not even later. four, he could have been accompanied by a manager or some senior person and they could have done a joint address to the remaining fans. five, he could have addressed the remaining fans by reading out from some scripted speech. six, he could have painted a rosy picture by 'comforting' the remaining fans that no one got hurt, or at least not seriously when he himself was not sure of the facts. seven, he could have played up the drama and cried or gone abit all emo on the remaining fans. eight.... well, you get the drift.

he had handled the situation the way i would have expected the yong joon i think i know would have handled it.

thank you, yong joon-ssi.

[non BYJ] kidding...

did you read what one anonymous person comment on MY LAST BLOG ENTRY?

she wrote, "please change your avatar i prefer your sitting on the chair and reading a newspaper or books something like that ...sorry it's your blog who am I just only a dudes. I'm happy you're back."

bb muttering, "geez... to think that i was away from this blog for awhile, and this is the 'welcome back' i get... and i'm blogging about the incident and you wanna discuss my avatar... goodness...." *shakes head with minnie mouse headgear still ON*

blogders are THIS hard to please these days...? geez... or did she forget this is my blog... and honestly, i'm more a minnie-mouse-taking-pictures type than i am a sit-on-chair-and-read-newspaper type, k? of course i know she doesn't mean any harm... and yes, i know i'm being sensitive about things.... but i didn't have a good day exactly, and this ain't helping.

and... more importantly, it was unnecessary and irrelevant at this kind of timing.

this is ME, take it or leave it.

[Trans] a (touching!) fan account

guess we had all read that one particular fan had sustained more serious injury than the rest, ya? she had suffered injury to her head and seems like she's gone through operation when in seoul and yea, quite some stitches... me wonders if this hokahoka sister could be this fan... hope she's OK now.

I am one of the fans who got injured.
I would like to share about the situation when the incident happened.
If there are areas where I've misunderstood (or remembered wrongly), please forgive me.

After the fourth group of family finished their group photo,
with the wind situation getting stronger,
Yong Joon-ssi started to stand in our midst and we started the photo-taking.

But the wind was getting stronger and we could not take photos,
Yong Joon-ssi used his hands to gesture 'X' to signal STOP SHOOTING
We were told that the photo-taking would continue indoors
So we proceeded to walk towards the hotel.

On the way to the hotel,
there was info that since the photo-taking wasn't completed,
please queue up again for the photo-taking session.

Half in disbelief, we stepped up onto the platform once again,
took our positions and lined up to have our photo taken.
Almost immediately we found out that the info was a mistake,
so we started to leave the middle of the grassy patch to go towards the hotel.

The wind was getting stronger and stronger
so strong that that it was not possible for us to walk on ahead anymore,
I was just thinking it's so dangerous,
and at that moment,
I felt something knock on my back with a huge force and I fell onto the grass.

At this point, the wooden planks used to build the platform for the photo-taking session collapsed.
In the strong wind, the staff were using all their might to remove the wooden planks
to rescue me from underneath the planks.

With the help of the staff, I was helped into the ambulance to lay down.
There were already some injured parties sitting inside the vehicle with their heads bleeding.
After our check-up at the hospital
We heard people say that those people had sustained the injuries
as they were trying to help the people who were blown down by the wind.
Those people had struggled with the wind in order to save and help us,
and their faces were hurt and scratched.
We felt pain in our hearts hearing that, and felt so sorry towards them.

I think... if I were standing during that time,
I would probably have sustained serious injuries.

When I was lying on the stretcher in the hospital,
Yong Joon-ssi came.
Looking at me lying there, he seemed to have taken a huge blow,
When he was nearing me, his eyes were brimming with tears,
He held my hand as he was saying he's sorry.

Thereafter, he held each of the injured fans' hands one by one and apologised to them.
At the end, he had come over to my side once again,
held me hand and murmured in a low voice, "I... What should I do?"
I only said to him, "Kenchanayo."

He's about my son's age.
The thought of this young man, whose pair of hands embodies such warmth,
having to, once again, shoulder such heavy burden,
My heart feels such pain that I'm almost heartbroken.

Fortunately there's nothing wrong with my bones
I can sit in front of the computer as I take my medication.
I pray for the speedy recovery of all those who have been hurt.
And I pray sincerely and anxiously to alleviate the pain and sadness in Yong Joon's heart.
I wish to express my gratitude towards the staff who had bled in order to protect us,
And also wish to thank the family who has worried for us.

[Trans] what YJ said that day...

this should be my last post for today, although i've got lots to say... but but but... i've, err... got other fish to fry tonight... so will have to leave this... i'll try to blog these coming two days, k?

meanwhile, i'll translate abit more from snowkin's sharing on LOVEYONGJOON.com.

Yong Joon says sorry...
(understand that this was what he had said to the fans on 12th march)

Sorry.
How should I say this?
I don't actually have the (right) words to express (what I'm feeling).
Today, it's supposed to be a happy day,
but it's turned out to be like this,
I really feel very sorry towards everyone.

I had wanted to take family photos with all of you who have traveled the distance to be here,
but it has ended up like this,
truly, I am very sorry, everyone.

I heard over 20 people have been hurt,
and there're people who have sustained serious injuries.
So I cannot (continue to) take the family photos with you.
I will definitely find another opportunity to do the photo-taking session (in future)
I think surely there'll be one day we'll have a chance to take the family photo,
I too want to do that.

It is not clear now about the situation of those injured,
I have to go to the hospital to visit them now.

Sorry, I hope to have everyone's kind understanding,
thank you.

snowkin further added that she's been feeling rather down and quite affected the few days after the accident, as she was reading the fan accounts of the japanese sisters who had gone on that tour and returned to japan. she's feeling pain for wuri yong joon's pain, and she's feeling sad for the injured sisters.

seems like there's also some unhappiness about how the tour guide and some staff not handling the aftermath in a satisfactory manner. They didn't provide the necessary care and attention for the sisters who were there. snowkin was sharing that she felt pain and sad towards those sisters. yea, over 1,000 of them who had gone on that rushy tour just to see a glimpse of wuri yong joon. yea, those over 1,000 japanese sisters who had returned to japan, possibly with such mixed feelings that it would probably take them sometime to figure out how exactly they're feeling, and all that jazz.

(why do i get the feeling that there's much that no one really wants to bring onto the table and talk...?)

anyway, snowkin shared that she's suddenly been reminded of that poem in wuri yong joon's book, Beauty of Korea...

"It's not a must to always share painful and sad things with others.
(Sometimes) a tiny drop of tear is enough,
if you've become that drop of tear for the world,
then I too would be happy to be that drop of tear (for you)."

--------

and oh, snowkin also shared that JOB had posted a notice days ago to say that up to 14th, everyone had been discharged from the hospital and returned to Japan, except for two injured parties.

the notice also said that the participants for the tour package will be receiving a written document from them about the incident and their recourse.

DA has also set up a special unit to deal with this incident and there's also a hotline (which is a temporary number) for inquiries on the incident. in the meantime, DA will also stop all of its tour activities.

there was supposedly a 'mysterious tour' happening on 23rd - 25th march, and that too has been canceled. generally, most believe that they will stop all packages to korea for now.

understand that only one-third of the tour participants managed to have their group photos taken with wuri yong joon. but in consideration of those injured and also those other fans who did not manage to have their photos taken, DA has decided not to release those group photos taken earlier to the fans. of course, there will be disappointed fans, i'm sure....

from the various fan accounts, seems that on the 12th, the tour participants were divided into groups of 10 people and led into a room in the hotel to watch the filming. each group was only allowed 25 minutes (each time?) and some have said that what they saw was even smaller than Tokyo Dome.

yong joon was sitting in front of the piano, and they could only see his back...

anyway, here are some pics... source as labeled on pics, and reposted from BYJ family.

on that DATV official tour...

you know, it's true... that the grass always appears greener on the other side...

some of us overseas fans are always lamenting at how wuri yong joon always holds events in japan and how his merchandise are nearly always exclusive for the japanese market... and how even his restaurants are opened in japan.

then over in japan, the fans actually have to pay very high prices to attend his events... and coz the turnout's always (too) good, the crowd runs into the tens of thousands. just imagine this... the korean pop groups' concerts in seoul only draw something like 10,000-15,000 fans per show, but wuri yong joon... he who doesn't sing, doesn't dance, doesn't do much on-stage during fan meetings, command practically the same ticket price (if not more) and the capacity is something like 30,000-40,000 heads.

it's a rather peculiar situation, no?

and yea, while we whine about the exclusive merchandise and all that jazz, have you ever considered how expensive it is for the japanese fans to show tangible and visible support for wuri yong joon? and even if they don't need the items, some of them will just order them anyway just to show support and also to ensure that wuri yong joon remains right there... at the top of the ladder rungs where we all staunchly and really really really believe he belongs.

but for the japanese fans to see him up close is near herculean feat.

so for the japanese fans, from their perspective, is that really a more 'superior' position to be in? take the example of the two fan meetings in japan last year... the korean fans and the overseas fans paid the same price for their tickets and yet, we're practically assured of fairly good seats with good view. nope, no need to ballot and hold our breath in anticipation. gosh, the japanese fans can't even sit with their friends since the tickets were allocated by ballot...

and for them, sure, there are all those so-called official tour packages sometimes... but yea, again expensive, and do you really get a good deal...? it's a really really really subjective question.

don't get me wrong, i ain't trying to stir up anything... i'm just thinking as each of us sits in our own backyard and looking out, it always seems like the other side gets the better part of the deal... but do they really...?

what about the korean fans?

they seem to be getting not too bad a deal...? i know there's a wee bit of unhappiness about how there are those so-called korean VIP family who were at the WLS anime filming site too... and how their payment for the tour packages were donated to charity and how wuri yong joon had actually foot the bill for their meal, etc etc etc...

but but but... from their perspective, maybe they too think they're at the 'losing' end ever since wuri yong joon got so famous and popular overseas..? in the past, before he got THIS big, he was actually still able to hold signing sessions, and attending handshake events for new store opening for brands that he endorsed, blah blah blah. quite possibly, he was able to hold activities to meet with the korean fans had he not been THIS big. so they too 'suffered' from his being the hallyu king.

i've heard of korean fans saying gosh, they really don't want a situation whereby they actually have to travel to japan just to attend his (a korean star, mind you!) fan meeting...

see...? it's never perfect no matter where and who.

yes, the grass is always greener on the other side.

anyway, i wanna share abit of what our dear snowkin has shared on LOVEYONGJOON.com. she'd written this the next day following the accident.

The Korean family who had visited the filming set had said on the official board that Yong Joon's expression was very solemn and sad when he was apologizing for the mishap. He had said, 'If only I were the one who had gotten hurt. (They) met with such an accident whilst in Korea, I'm very worried and feel very bad..."

When the sudden wind came, to mobilize some 1,000 people indoors was probably not an easy feat. To be honest, this official tour package was really a very hurried and rushy one. They took the 8pm flight out from Japan on 11th. By the time they got to Korea and checked into the hotel, it was probably nearing 12 midnight.

Then the next morning on the 12th, they had to set off at 4:30am to travel to Gangneung. The coach ride was about three and a half hours. According to the itinerary, they were supposed to make a compulsory stop to Lotte World for duty free shopping.

Then on the 13th, they're supposed to leave the hotel at 5am to go to the airport to go home.

see...? the itinerary, to me, seemed rather rushy. punishing, even. do you really envy the japanese fans...? do think again. some of them may even think they're at the losing end of the bargain. yea, they seem to be getting all the activities, all the merchandise and tour packages, but they don't seem to be able to get the personal touch...?

and oh btw heard that since not everyone on the tour packages got to take their group photos with wuri yong joon and jiwoo, BOF has decided not to release the photos of those fans who did complete the photo-taking exercise. this is to be fair to everyone who had taken the packages, otherwise it would result in some getting the photos and some not.

i guess this is a tricky situation, and either way, there'll be unhappy people. right this moment, i don't envy the position wuri yong joon and his company are in. truly, my heart goes out to you, and to the japanese sisters too.

one more thing before i end off this post. seems like korea had actually released a warning alert about the strong wind the day before. then again, some 1200 (1500?) fans had already arrived in korea. how on earth to find an alternative shooting locaiton over night...? anyhow, the sky had dawned clear(and safe?) on the 12th.... who's to know...?

i think we should take things in stride and take comfort that no one's seriously hurt. i mean, it really could have been alot worse, no? let's look at things on the brighter side... there IS someone watching over him and us, that's why the situation wasn't any more serious.

some 'afternotes' from fans

just wanna share the translation of two japanese fans' accounts. they were amongst those hurt in that accident.

Fan Account #1

First let me pray for the bae-fans who have been hurt during this time
I was very lucky to have been able to take a group picture with Yong Joon
At that time, the weather was clear; no wind at all
Everyone was also very quiet
Yong Joon was so close to us
Watching this scene
I too walked away, happy and contented...

Thereafter there was a sudden gust of strong wind (tornado?)
and the incident happened

In the coach on the ride back to the hotel
Everyone's first and foremost concert was of the injured sisters
And the rest of the family who did not get to take pictures with Yong Joon due to the subsequent cancellation
And lastly, everyone was thinking about how Yong Joon would surely be feeling upset and pained over this
He who had no wrong and no fault in this incicent
The next item on our itinerary had all been cancelled
(snowkin: shopping at Lotte Duty Free)

Everyone was in tears
Talking and thinking about the injured family
Talking and thinking about the family who didn't take the group photos
Talking and thinking about how Yong Joon and Jiwoo were feeling
What should we do....?

Fan Account #2 (Yuri)

After one night
My body felt uncomfortable and not right
Head is aching and there's abit of fever
I only have the memory of me falling
Seemed to have been hit by the wooden planks twice
It's still quite scary when I think back about it now
I've only sustained light injuries, so it's alright
Please, everyone, do not worry
I will have to continue to see the doctor after returning to Japan
Will stop updating the blog for the time being
Will continue writing after I've recovered
Yong Joon came to the hospital to see us at 7pm last night
He clasped our hands tightly
But his expression was very sad...

ps. am sure most of you would have already read about how wuri yong joon was actually telling the korean fans who had also visited the filming set that he wished he was the one who had gotten hurt instead... ahhh...

YJ sees the details...

this one's just too good not to be reposted!

or rather, this one has elements of wuri yong joon that i see and i love... have always loved reading accounts by others that talk about him and how the little things speak volume, and this is one fine example.

and... haha, i had just posted a related link about THE FAMOUS MORNING CALL FROM YJ yesterday...!

thanks for the trans, suehan!

[Trans] Ryu Seung Soo talks about BYJ in his book,
“Don’t be an actor like me” (3)

Identity of laziness wearing a dream down

It happened such a long time ago. I was depressed for a while for some reason. One day, my friend, Bae Yong Joon called me. We talked this and that, and suddenly he asked me about my bed time. I answered him honestly, because we have a close enough relationship to understand each other.

“I don’t work these days, so I go to bed at dawn.”

“Then, what time do you wake up?”

“In the afternoon.”

He responded to my answer regrettably, “If you wake up a little early, then you might have lots of work to do.’, so I responded lingeringly “Yo, I don’t have any work to do even if I wake up early.”, but he talked to me like a moral textbook.

“You have to make your own work by yourself. In my case, no one would be complaining to me if I go to bed and wake up late when I don’t have any schedule. However, I create work to do and try to spend my day prolifically. If you go on the internet and go to bed, then you just waste your life in vain and kill the days."

I couldn’t say anything on his comment. Even later on, the laziness was still next to me. I picked up the phone with a loud voice unconsciously trying to hide my laziness when he called me early in the morning. Of course, my friend smelled my production.

“Just use your quiet voice because I know you just woke up.” Ah.. There are no secrets in this world. I can’t help but to judge his passion, which I’m not able to pursue, towards life highly even though he is my friend.

The power of details

One day, I met Bae Yong Joon after the movie, “Secret Sunshine’ was released. He asked me whether I watched that movie. I commented without hesitation because I already watched it and was impressed.

Then, he asked me whether I remembered the scene that Jong Chan (Song Gang Ho) looked at Shin Ae (Jeon Do Yeon) screaming and crying in church, and how he was looking at her. Actually, the senior Song Gang Ho didn’t act in that scene. I remember that he just looked at her from a long distance and there wasn’t much acting from him.

But, he said that the senior Song Gang Ho’s acting was brilliant in that scene. He said that most actors probably tried to act someway in that scene, but Song acted very well without disturbing the other’s acting.

Days later, after I heard it from him, I met the senior Song Gang Ho. So, I related BYJ’s account on his acting to the senior, he said with a smile that initially, his position requested by the director was right behind crying Shin Ae. But he thought his emotion was different, so he suggested to the director that his emotion should be as far as possible. After discussion, he sat on that spot.

I think Jong Chan expressed his feelings of helplessness for Shin Ae whom he loved most efficiently.

[Trans] YJ paid the medical fees

wondering why there's no updates from me from two days...?

believe me, i'm never really far. even when i ain't blogging, or even when you think i'm leader-blogging, i'm never really far from wuri yong joon. blogging or not, i check for bae-updates on a daily basis and i would still smile a silly smile when i happen to look at a digital clock and it says 8:29.

and each time i blog over at THE OTHER BLOG, i'm reminded of how less frequently i'm blogging over here. haha, how come there're times when i actually feel as though i'm cheating on wuri yong joon with leader?! keke!

will be honest... i didn't blog here for the past two days even though i really really really wanted to... coz i was having abit of mixed emotions. yea, something happened, some things were said, and i'd also read some things here and there... and i wasn't sure yet of how the bae family at large is taking things. and more importantly, i just ain't sure of my own personal views on these things.

so i was waiting for more 'stories', more fan accounts, and also more fans' sharing about how they're feeling. but not much seem to be coming out. if there were, they're probably in korean and/or japanese, and no one's translating for the english-speaking fan community.

talking about the english-speaking fan community, is it me or is there something wrong with quilt? i've been trying to access the site the entire night, but can't seem to get on the site.

and sidetrack alittle, i've been feeling for a long while now, quilt seems to have lost its lustre? some days it's so quiet that i get scared visiting the website... it feels as though i were alone in the site and that no one has visited for days and days.

what's happening to us?

yes, i understand that when he's not doing much and not spending much time in the public's eye, there ain't much to post. but it's just so quiet... and feels 'dead'...? what's happened to all of us? are we getting jaded? all tired and not wanting to interact and talk anymore...? or have half of the fans moved on to somewhere, or someone else...? guess that's another story...

for this post, i just wanted to repost our dear suehan's translation of the news article on how wuri yong joon had (expectedly) taken care of all the medical bills. (but honestly, i was just wondering... surely they'd taken up some travel insurance or third party liability stuff...? anyway...)

BYJ paid all of the medical expenses for the injured fans

Bae Yong Joon, an actor, paid all of the medical expenses for the fans who got injured due to the unexpected accident.

On the 12th, about 30 Japanese tourists who got injured while they visited the animation WS filming site at the resort in Jeongdongjin, Gangwondo, received treatment at the nearby hospital. An officer of Keyeast, which is the BYJ’s management company, said, “The management company will take care of all the medical expenses related to the treatment. Bae Yong Joon visited all of the injured fans who visited Korea to see him, and apologized to them.”

As of the 14th of March, in the afternoon, all but one tourist returned to Japan after they received treatment. BYJ’s management company checked all of the flight schedules of the tourists who couln’t keep up with their schedules. The same officer from Keyeast added, “Only one female tourist is hospitalized now. We recommended her to receive more treatment until she recovers completely because the hospital advised her to do so. All the other injured fans got on the plain without any problems after they were discharged from the hospital.

Bae Yong Joon is in position to take full responsibilities of the future problems which might take place. Someone related to him said, “Even though they returned to Japan, we’ll keep watching them until they recover fully. We will disclose future procedures related to the compensation if there are any and prepare for the suitable remedies.”

On that day, the accident occurred due to the sudden weather change. About 30 tourists who stayed in the filming site were injured because the facilities fell down by a strong wind after two cast members left.

[VOD] news reports on the accident

seems like wuri yong joon had gone on his rounds to visit the fans who were hurt today...

and i've read that most were just slightly scratched or bruised, and one suffered slightly more serious injury to her head. but not to worry, no one's in critical condition though. and various news reports also said that 32 people were hurt in the unfortunate incident.

seems like the weather has been acting up since a few days ago... and it even snowed earlier this week, i think... and the past two days were rather windy and this afternoon there was reportedly an alert about strong wind or something.... seems like it's really an unusual and unfortunate thing to have happened.

other than those wooden planks that were 'uprooted' by the wind and 'flew' off, hurting the people present, gangneung city itself also suffered damages due to the wind.

anyway, i've lifted three news clips from japanese fan FLARE's BLOG. all three are japanese news network, incidentally.

[KOB] notice about the accident

ahhh... there's a notice posted on KOB as well, now i'd assume that the contents should be somewhat along the same line as the JOB notice...? anyway, our dear diligent suehan has done the english translation on HER BLOG.

Hello, Families;

We believe that you, Families, are concerned about the news related to the Animation Winter Sonata filming in live action this afternoon. First, we deeply apologize for concerning you. We’d like to explain the situation since there are many questions from Families who are concerned and worried about it.

As you already might know, there was the filming in live action of the last scene of the Animation Winter Sonata at a resort in Jeongdongjin, Gangneng today. As planned, the filming in live action was processed smoothly with the casts.

We stopped the filming in live action and Bae Yong Joon ssi was taking pictures with the fans who came to see the filming to commemorate the event. While taking pictures, suddenly, a strong wind blew and even we couldn’t control our balance. So, we stopped taking pictures with the fans and moved to the inside of the resort. However, a strong wind moved the rostrum which was set up to take pictures and post was set up to guide the filming, and, unfortunately, Families got injured while we’re moving inside.

Luckily, the patients received the treatment promptly because ambulance and other cars, which were waiting at the site, could transport them to the hospitals in Gangneung fast.

After that, Bae Yong Joon ssi visited all the hospitals in Gangneung where Families who were visiting the filming site and other patients were hospitalized, deeply apologized them, and wished their speedy recovery..

From now on, Keyeast will take care of all related matters and do our best, so all of them recover completely. We promise to take care of the follow up arrangements for you, so do not worry about it.

Not only for us, but there are big and small damages in Gangwondo due to today’s strong wind. We truthfully hope that there aren’t big damages.

From now on, we’ll work harder to send you good messages.

Again, we deeply apologize to you, Families, for your concern.

Keyeast

what's the JOB notice about...?

the princess wonders...

well, till some kind soul does the english translation...
