flight was overbooked and there were no more seats!!
how to solve the problem? hehe, i got bumped up to business class, wakaka!
hi all, some of you might have come across a certain notice put up by a company by the name of east asia entertainment, claiming to be inviting sponsorship from companies for the boys' persona concert in guangzhou, china.
the SgTripleS fanclub has just received an email from korea side to inform us that it's actually a scam, the boys are NOT going to guangzhou for their concert at all. at least that's not part of the plan for now...
we've been asked to help spread the news that the entire appeal for sponsorship deals is fake and a scam, DO NOT FALL INTO THE TRAP.
it's sad to see people abusing the boys' popularity to cheat...

Artisans and Masters Surprised by how Hardworking & Assiduous BYJ was
On the 22nd, a commemorative event was held for the publication of the book, The Journey in Search of the Beauty of Korea, authored by Bae Yong Joon (BYJ) himself. At the end, the masters from the arts arena who had lent their assistance and support to the book all shared their thoughts and feelings. A common thread amongst their sharing was 'BYJ's hardworking and assiduous ways were remarkably surprisingly, and he really possesses determination and perseverance.'
Lacquer artist Jun Yong Bok who had carried out lacquer artwork in Japan together with BYJ said, "Most people are worried about lacquer dermatitis when they first come into contact with lacquer art.
There was once he was supposed to have a filming schedule right after his lacquer work, so I'd prepared protective gloves for him beforehand. But he politely declined and refused to wear the gloves, even I may not be able to do that. There was no hint of him being afraid or hesitant about lacquer at all."
Master of traditional wine Mr Park (朴碌潭) said, "I asked him which types of traditional wine he wanted to learn to make, and in the end, he chose the one that's the most difficult to produce, and the one that takes the longest to make. I had thought there was no way he could have completed both, so I did not help him at all.
Eventually, after going through much hardship and challenges, there were blisters on his hands and his skin was peeling, but he finally produced the wine some five hours earlier than expected. It really shocked me. At that time, I truly felt the latent charisma and attraction in him."
Mr Eun (尹振哲), singer of traditional national music, also said, "One could completely feel how true, how genuine and sincere he is through his proactive and serious attitude towards learning. I thought it was too tiring to continue to practise singing, so I recommended him the kŏmun'go (aka hyŏn'gŭm). According to him, he's already brought the musical instrument back home to practise."
The masters from the other arena too expressed similar views, "... only half believed him when I heard him say he wanted to learn, but later from how diligent and serious his attitude towards learning was, I could thoroughly feel and understand the mannerism and the presence of a real superstar."
p.s. if you're wondering how the kŏmun'go (aka hyŏn'gŭm) looks like, here's a picture.
p.p.s. don't kill me... but what pops into your head when you look at this?
hee, i thought there was a MAJOR embarrassing angle problem with the third pic....
yay! it's in today's (wed) korean media that wuri yong joon's travel books have sold out!
in fact, it's been reported that just the advance reservations alone had already 'forced' the book into fourth print! seems like keyeast can't cope with the demand and is now madly rushing the fifth print run!
yea, am talking about the original korean version. soooooooooo.... happy!
if i were in korea now, i would go visit kyobo or something and check out the bestsellers list! surely they too have those bestsellers display, ya? would be so greeeeeeeeat to see his book being displayed proudly... lovely, lovely news!
sorry, i've no idea how many copies have been sold, hopefully we can have an answer to this soon!
meanwhile, over in japan, they've already started taking reservations, but customers/fans are limited to just one copy. and, they're only getting their books sometime in mid october.
(random thought... me wondering if the japanese version would have seen the western/eastern pagado mistake being rectified in time....)
meanwhile, sharing pics that long-time korean fan, style, has taken from the presscon yesterday. for as long as i've been a fan, style has been present in practically all key events and she's been snapping pics of events, and also of wuri yong joon. over the years, bae fans have come to count on her for pics from a fan's perspective. me glad that style's taken time to take pics of the venue, as it gives layers and context to yesterday's event.
for us fans who weren't able to be there, these pics help us visualize better. me quite like the way they've set up the place.
thanks much much, style!
love this one!
love love this one!!
love love love this one!!!
and i guess someone else loves this pic as much as i do too... could it be wuri yong joon himself? not only was this pic chosen to be one of those displayed at the general area, it was also one of the two key pics selected to go right up there on the stage with the man himself.
oh, why don't they just give away these two posters to us, fans?!! or even postcards will do!
i love these two and that one of him in the white tee, black fab vest and wide pants facing the sea and the sun. oh, give me all three and i'll be a very very very happy fan for three days, hehe!
on the side, since i'd mentioned style earlier, guess you all know that she's from byjgallery.
the byjgallery team has put up a notice pleading with everyone to protect and respect the intellectual property for this book. chinese fan wonchon has done a trans-in-brief of the notice and posted it on baidu.
basically, the byjgallery team is suggesting that everyone who has bought the book NOT to scan the pics and upload onto the internet. let's all come together to protect its IP, and let's not reproduce the contents of the book on the net too.
the people who were present at the media event yesterday had already seen the book. the book is over 400 pages, and is rather thick. it's supposedly and seemingly a book of high taste and quality. it is said that all the pics by wuri yong joon that had been included in the book are all very artistically taken.
the byjgallery team also said that with such substantial contents and quality, the book should be priced at 2-3 times higher than its current price.
yea, i guess they're right. whilst we fans will still support him by buying the book even if we've already seen everything being posted on the internet, but there might be others who are non-fans who might be influenced NOT to buy the book if everything has been posted and revealed on the internet.
at the very least, let's try our very very very best to hold back our itchy fingers from sharing it for a couple of months...? surely that's not too much to ask, ya?
wasn't gonna post this, but since ramen mentioned it and seems like she still hasn't heard, so will just mention it quickly. wanna wrap up this post and then go home....
basically, this news has been out a few days now. the date of the hong kong concert remains as per what was mentioned before.
yup, yup, it's still 12th dec (sat), and it's still at asia world arena.
ticketing info was released yesterday as well. basically, priority booking for AEG is from 5th to 9th oct, and then public sales start from 12th oct (mon).
click here if you wanna know what AEG does. apparently, AEG live is the second largest concert booking agency in the world.
and... there're several ways you can buy tickets for the hong kong leg of the persona concert. of course, you can wait till the ticket sales is open to the public. or, you can also seek help from the various SS501 fanclubs in hong kong.
lancy's notice is in chinese, i've translated it into english.
Source: Charisma! (HK DoubleS Club) Translated into English: Happiebb @SgTripleS
Charisma! will be doing group booking of the tickets for SS501 Persona Concert in Hong Kong
Official news about the concert has been released on 2009.09.22 (refer to concert ticketing poster above)
Charisma! will post the notice on reservation of tickets on 2009.09.23 (wed) at the earliest. All TS please keep a lookout for the notices and news on Charisma!
Charisma! will only be reserving the HKD980 / HKD680 tickets. The ticket reservation notice will be posted once more official info is available, please look out for updates on the Charisma! forum.
p.s. We will accept ticket reservation from overseas fan.
and... HK TripleS is also willing to help overseas fans with their tickets. go sign up, they've instructions in english and chinese.
and... actually SgTripleS will also be putting up our own notice to help members get tickets for the hong kong concert. we've gotten in touch with the korean side, and they've asked us to let them know how many tickets we need. so if you're a SgTripleS member, do check out the forum if you're keen to attend the concert in hong kong.
one more thing, i really don't have enough faith in the way DSP plans things. or perhaps it has to do with the way they appoint local partners? why is it that they're always not so 'smart' with the selection of dates leh?
shanghai concert back in feb 2008 was one classic example, who on earth would hold a concert during CNY? that's like the one biggest thing for chinese, and most people are actually back in their hometown. and to think that they didn't learn their lesson in china, and still picked 29th aug to hold their beijing fan meet. yea, that's like the last weekend of school hols, so the younger fans all had trouble going up to beijing to attend the fan meet...
then with singapore, the rumoured date of 29th nov is a sunday. surely ticket sales would be better on a saturday than a sunday? and... exam period's not over yet! we've done quick checks on the forum, most say their last paper is on 30th nov, or 2nd dec. so...? sighs...
and... with hong kong, 12th dec... yea, rain's legend of rainism asia tour is happening in hong kong on 12th and 13th dec.
you know, i've always like pics from east-01, when it comes to wuri yong joon's pics.
for whatever reason pics from east-01 tend to come abit late, usually a day or two later. or at least they're being reposted by korean fans later, coz i always see them on bae-sites late.
but somehow i've always thought their pics of wuri yong joon are often the nicest, the gentlest...
were you wondering if wuri yong joon's still drinkingSEI water?
seems so....!
for the newbies amongst you, yea, you know who you are, and you know i'm talking to you, hehe!
wuri yong joon was first seen with SEI water when he was in osaka for the premium TWSSG event.keke, i can still remember how that stylish flat water bottle stirred up such a storm and caused many to start searching for it.
available only in selected pockets of the world, some resorted to getting their friends in the states to order the water and send the water to wherever they happen to be.
but i've gotta say he looked really good with the sexy SEI water. click here to see more.
and now... don't you suddenly want his long hair back...? yea, actually i didn't mind this lookat all...
anyway, wanna repost this great one by gaulsan. she's shared it on quilt. basically, she's gone through various news clips from the Q&A session from yesterday's presscon, and compiled the following.
thanks heap, gaulsan!
==============
Greeting> Annyunghaseyo? I am Bae Yong Joon.
Thank you very much for attending this meeting.
This is my first press meeting for publishing a book, and I feel embarrassed, nervous, and happy at the same time.
I hope you consider the book that I will introduce you as my record as a beginner of studying Korean culture, not as a book specializing in culture.
----------------
- I heard that you fell ill with sepsis. How is your present condition?
▲ I am sorry to make everyone worry. I am getting well, and I received much power after meeting the masters today.
- Would you tell us how you feel after writing your book?
▲ There are many reasons that made me write this book. In an interview I had in Japan, I was asked to introduce noticeable pIaces of Korea. I was ashamed because I couldn't give good answer to that question. Also, when I met my Family coming to see me working at the shooting site, I felt sorry for them because they spend most of their time at the shooting site, and I hoped to introduce them good pIaces to enjoy.
At first, I planned to introduce celebrated localities and good restaurants, but I change my mind. I thought that if I introduce Korean culture, how Koreans feel and express themselves, it would help people notice the deeper meaning of things otherwise they won't notice when visiting the same pIace.
It was a hard work to write this book, but thanks to the support of these masters, I could finish writing. I am thankful that I managed to finish this book without trouble.
- Did you write this all by yourself?
▲ (Smiling) I wrote it by myself.
- How did you choose the themes?
▲ There are 13 themes, and I chose some from things I was always interested, and some were recommended by others. My journey to meet and interview the masters were arranged like riding on a flow of water. Through books, newspapers, and through acquaintance... I met one master and then another. I thought 'this might be what is called karma'.
- How much are you satisfied with your book?
▲ I am not satisfied. Whenever I feel not satisfied, I say to myself I can do better next time. The most difficult part of writing this book was meeting the deadline. It was really hard to write in time. (Like other people,) I couldn't speed up my writing till the last moment (laugh). Because the entire process was delayed, the editing staffs had to work very hard. I would like to say here that I am sorry and thankful for their help.
- Are you planning to write another book?
▲ I think it is time to plan another drama(or movie) than a book. I feel very sorry to my Family for my long absence. However, writing a book is a very interesting process. If I write another book, I will introduce celebrated localities and good restaurants, which has more photographs and less words (laugh).
- Where was the most impressive pIace?
▲ There are so many good pIaces that it is difficult to choose one.
However, Hwangryongsa-ji of Kyungju was the most impressive pIace.
There is nothing left there and we can't see a thing. I don't know why, but that pIace made me immerse in deep thought. When I returned home, I thought 'maybe I missed something. I must visit there again.' It was such a pIace.
[ Hwangryongsa-ji is a pIace where was a large temple named Hwangryongsa. It was built in 554AD in Shilla dynasty. It was destroyed when the Mongolia invaded and put fire on it in the 13th century. There is no building left, and only stones that supported columns are left to show us how large that temple was. It is the pIace that appears at the front cover of YJ's book. ]
- Among various things you've experienced, what would you like to continue doing?
▲ I would like to become a farmer.
I want to step on the ground and touch soil. I think I will feel happy to plant and harvest things and share healthy food with others. I've learned many other things and I want to do them, too, but if I am to write one more line in my curriculum vitae, I would like to add that I am a farmer.
- What is your next plan?
▲ I will never become a singer. I can't sing well.
If you visit me when I become a farmer, then maybe I can sing you a song. There can be no BYJ as a writer if there is no BYJ as an actor.
- Why did you fall ill? Would you give your message to your fans?
▲ The largest problem was losing weight. When I once asked someone about losing weight, he said, if I write another book, then I will gain weight.
I think my body got weak because I lost too much weight, and that's why I had to get hospitalized. I am now recovering. I am basically a healthy person, so I will recover soon. I am sorry to make my Family and my parents worry.
- Is there anything discontented with your work?
▲ I've studied really hard, but many things are discontented. I regret that I was short of time. The most regretful thing is, there is a flaw in my writing. In page 257 at the second bottom line, it is written 'western tower'. It should be 'eastern tower'. I am sorry.
There are many flaws in my book, but I hope this could be a companion of your journey to explore Korea.
Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon, discharged Monday from a hospital after five days of treatment for an illness caused by fatigue and stress, didn't look tired or sick at all at a press event to promote his book Discovering the Beauty of Korea, Tuesday.
Dressed in a sleek black suit with a dark purple tie, the 37-year-old actor greeted fans and the press with his signature smile.
"It's my first time to hold a press event for a book so I'm nervous and very excited.
"This book is not a fancy one written by a professional expert. It's written by a beginner who wanted to learn more about Korean culture," he said.
The book carries essays and photos written and taken by Bae himself as he traveled around the country. The actor collaborated with 11 culture experts, such as tea expert Park Dong-chun, hanbok designer Lee Hyo-jae and traditional liquor expert Park Rok-dam, covering 13 traditional cultural contents including pottery, hanbok designs and food over the past year.
"It was during a press conference in Japan (when I first thought of writing a book). One reporter asked me if there were any places in Korea I would like to recommend to fans. When I couldn't find an answer, I realized how little I knew about our culture," Bae said.
"My first plan was to write a book about tourists spots and restaurants in Korea, but then I thought it would be more meaningful if I explored the culture and the people first."
A short clip that showed Bae's journey included meeting designer Lee Sang-bong to discuss the beauty of hangeul; visiting the National Museum of Korea to learn about Korea's history; stopping by Baekheungam Temple, North Gyeongsang Province, to taste temple food; joining Jeon to make pottery using traditional techniques; and even spending a few days at Woljeong Temple, Gangwon Province, for a templestay.
Traditional lacquer expert Jeon Yong-bok said he was very surprised when he heard that Bae was hospitalized. "I believe it was because he threw himself in making the book. This project was a very difficult one, but Bae showed deep interest and was ever so eager to learn more about the Korean culture," he said.
With short essays describing the lessons and experiences he went through, the book offers aspects of Korean culture even Koreans have forgotten, from applying lacquer to furniture, pottery making and singing traditional songs.
Considering his health, the actor said that he lost 10 kilograms and he now understood the difficulties authors and reporters tend to go through when writing.
"The most difficult thing was meeting the deadline," he said laughing.
"It was interesting, as soon as the deadline came closer, the words came to me!"
Being one of the most popular hallyu stars in Japan, Bae's book attracted Japanese fans and reporters as well. According to his agency, the publishing copyright for the book were sold to a Japanese book agency for a whopping 800 million. The average copyright for foreign books in Japan is around 92 million won.
"I have learned that it is not ability, fame or money that is important (in preserving the Korean culture), but a true heart. I thank everyone who taught me this," Bae said.
Readers can find Discovering the Beauty of Korea in bookstores today.
p.s. me love love love that last sentence he said. i can totally imagine he really really really believes in that.
p.p.s. still from tomato, i wanna repost this innolife clip that shows the photo slides that were shown at the presscon yesterday.
i know there're many many many clips coming out from today's press conference. if you only have time for one, let the above DYTN clip be the one.
you won't regret your 7 mins 20 secs if you're a fan. practically all new footage, and practically all lovely.
it's just fascinating to see how he disregards the camera shooting him, following him around. c'mon, this is the guy who could clam up and get all self-conscious whenever he has to force himself to do a commercial shoot. yea, despite his years in the industry, despite his having fronted so many brands, i kindda still see him as the guy who doesn't know where to place his hands once they're out of his pockets, haha!
but once he's totally engrossed in his work, it's like he doesn't even notice the camera. his eyes would be riveted on the work that he's doing, and would be focusing on the person he's speaking with.
you think he's just acting?
i don't think so.
hehe, much as i am a fan, i also know his limits. this man is not a natural born actor, but a hardworking one. whatever acting ability he has now is not a natural talent, he's learnt and honed his skills and improved his craft. so if you tell me you think he's just acting like he's engrossed, then let us just agree to disagree.
watching him in this clip is quite something. seeing him put his superstar status aside, seeing him admit that there're still many things he doesn't know, doesn't understand, but his quest for knowledge is like a burning fire that i could feel even through the computer screen! i can almost taste his voracious appetite for new knowledge, his eagerness to want to find out more. seeing him mirror the actions of the masters, seeing him study those objects with such intensity, seeing him sitting cross-legged, seeing him sweeping the grounds, seeing him humble and seeing him humbled...
i like how he's able to ease himself into those surroundings with such grace and elegance.
and then as i was watching the clip, something else struck me.
how our lives turn out and what we achieve out of our this lifetime is really really really up to us, isn't it? just think about it. how many stars are there out there? okay, let's just narrow down to south korea. even just south korea, there're many, ya?
and most of them handsome actors just act in dramas, move on to movies, do alot of CFs, maybe publish a photo book, go tour in japan, and some even sing and dance a little. and a few also venture out to china, or to hollywood. a few lucky ones also pick up some awards along the way. that's like the tried and tested route of all.
most don't spend much time thinking about it. they just do what everyone else does.
wuri yong joon could have a very comfortable life doing just that.
but nope, not him.
he wants to build a bridge between korea and japan, and then he wants to create the Asian wave instead of just Hallyu Wave. and it ain't just talk. with his own resources and ideals, he has tried to make things happen. from talking to the media and persuading them to write more about the Asian wave, to opening korean restaurants in japan (and possibly elsewhere too) to introduce the korean cuisine and food culture to the rest of the world, to being involved in the distribution of asian entertainment products pan-asia, to being part of the committee to globalise korean cuisine, and to actually 'experiencing' the beauty of korean culture the way he did and then to share his experience.
that last book project is really something that not an average actor would think of doing. i mean, who on earth would be willing to take a year off to do research, to travel far and wide in search of korean artisans, begging them to share their craft and impart their skills to an actor who could only be their 'apprentice' for just a few days or weeks?
i mean, it's one thing to visit the pottery village and potter around with some pottery for a few hours in the name of doing research for a book, but quite another to actually want to learn the craft so much so that he could actually create something... and to create something that's somewhat flawed and yet he's still unwilling to discard it only goes to show how much heart he had put into that creation in the first place.
what am i driving at?
what i'm trying to say is in our own lives, we can take control of things. each and every day, we make decisions and these decisions, be it big or small, can impact the outcome of things, and it can also steer or change the direction of our lives.
just imagine, if wuri yong joon would just go with the flow, then he would never have written and published this book. but he consciously wanted to do something different. and it's not something he's familiar with either, in fact he's treading on totally unfamiliar ground... out of the 11 or was it 13 traditional arts/crafts/techniques, he didn't know ahead of time if there would be something that would end up being out of his range, something that tried as he did, he might not be able to grasp the principles and concept. and (gasp!) what if he couldn't write...? and what if the book ended up a total flop?
but nope, he wanted to test his own limits, so he made the decision to do something different.
from being JUST an actor, he has 'strayed' into a different path.
so who's to say we can't make a decision to be different from the rest? do we WANT to be different from the rest? if we do, then it has to start from daring to think differently, daring to adopt an alternative view, and daring to take that decision to try something that is alittle bit unpredictable.
who knows? the journey might be more fun than you'd think, and the rewards might be sweeter than you'd imagine. no pain, no gain. if we don't try, we will forever be just like that other person in line. who knows? maybe you're supposed to be the next big thing, if you dare.
here are more clips... yea, to 'reward' you for putting up with my late night ramblings.

wanna say a big fat THANK YOU to tomato for uploading and sharing all these clips!
p.s. and oh, watching the BTS footage reminded me of some pics that we'd seen late last year. remember sometime last december wuri yong joon was seen checking out some garment factory and also spending time with a certain korean designer?
i see the designer in the clip!! clickhere andherefor more info.
p.p.s. how come in some articles i read that it's 11 artisans, and yet in others it's 13...? does anyone know for sure?
Top Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon did not disappoint fans who gathered on Tuesday, appearing at an event held to promote his new book on Korean culture despite having been hospitalized for the past five days.
Bae, admitted to the hospital last week for sepsis, started a press conference by apologizing for causing concern over his health and assured fans he was recovering.
His agency had said the actor had grown weaker after working on his photo essay, tentatively titled "Journey in Search of Korea - Bae Yong-joon", which introduces 11 cultural artisans, Korean traditional food and cultural content, along with travel locations.
"It was not easy writing the book during the past year and it was even harder trying to finish it before the copy deadline," the 37-year-old actor said. "But I feel good now that the book has been published."
He also spoke about the lessons he learned traveling to write his book while all 11 artisans who attended the event also spoke about their experiences with the actor.
Bae went on to apologize for an error in the back of his book where he mentioned a West pagoda instead of an East pagoda -- asking readers to consider the book as a beginner's introduction to Korean culture rather than a professional guide.
The book will be sold in Korea starting tomorrow and in Japan on September 30 where Bae is set to attend a promotional event for the book at Tokyo Dome.

p.s. i'd read onloveyongjoon that wuri yong joon had said that the biggest regret in this book is that there's an error in the second row of the last paragraph on page 257.
it's late and i'm tired. i was up till 5am this morning and had to wake up at 9am (yea, abit late, i know...) to get to work. i'm like sooooooo... beat and i can't be late for work tomorrow since i've got an important meeting at 10am.
so won't waste much time doing 'real blogging', will just repost whatever i wanna 'store' in my blog, k?

for someone who'd never, ever, been a fan of any actor, i've fallen hard, very very hard, for a certain korean man... (and now, since jan 2009, a certain 'alien' hailing from korea too...)
