Yonsama in Morioka
6 March 2009
Korean actor Bae Yong Joon was secretly staying in Morioka till 4th. Object of his stay was to study lacquer craftwork.
During his stay, Yon-sama secretly visited notable sights in prefecture.
Bae Yong Joon came to Iwate Prefecture on 26th last month. This is Yon-sama’s first time to visit Iwate, and stayed for a week till 4th.
Object of his stay was to study lacquer craftwork from Mr Jun Yong Bok who is curator of Iwayama Urushi Art Museum in Morioka City.
Yon-sama originally had interest in lacquer craftwork. His visit to prefecture came true as he wished to learn from Mr Jun, and to interview Mr Jun and to include it in his book of Beauty of Korea.
Yon-sama stayed with 8 people including reporting staff. He created 12 works which included paneled work to hang on walls.
Yon-sama visited various sight-seeing spots in the prefecture such as Miyako and Hiraizumi.
His work Sea in Morning was created from the image of sea of Sanriku. Mr Jun was so surprised to see Yon-sama even cut his sleeping time and seriously devoted himself to create his work.

Yon-sama stayed in one of the rooms at Iwayama Urushi Art Museum. Since he wishes to learn more on lacquer artwork from Mr Jun, working clothes that Yon-sama used will be stored and kept at the museum.
Yon-sama totally fell in love with Iwate. This stay will be introduced in his book which is scheduled to be published in Korea at later half of this year.

p.s. here are some pics of the iwayama urushi art museum in morioka city.

p.p.s. gotta say from what i can make out of that pic, his work has a sophisticated texture that i wasn't expecting from someone who's sorta still a beginner... i suppose he must be quite good at it, you know how sometimes your confidence grows coz you're good at something? and the more confident you are with yourself, the better you do at that something.
